Cranbrook pushes past Cardinal Mooney 56-44 in CHSL Intersectional rematch.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes defeated the Marine City Cardinal Mooney Cardinals 56-44 at home Wednesday. The win lifts Cranbrook to 4-2 on the season, while Cardinal Mooney moves to 3-5 for the year.

Senior Cam Garner had 19 points to lead the Cranes in victory. Sophomore Trent Rice had 14 points to lead the Cardinals.

Senior Miles Pistner and sophomore John Kersh both contributed 12 points for Cranbrook, while Larry DeDaus added 10 to Cardinal Mooney effort.

Cranbrook led from the start as Kersh and senior Bryce Hall got the Cranes to a fast start. Combining with Garner and junior Brandon McCaskill, the Cranes established the early lead

Rice and DeDaus worked to provide offense for Cardinal Mooney while getting a 3-pointer from junior Luc Julio, but the Cardinals found it difficult to keep pace.

Cranbrook led 28-15 at the half.

The second half saw the Cardinals work back into the fight with Senior Kevin Everhart and freshman Brian Everhart sinking key field goals and sinking free throws. But Pistner would answer from beyond the arc, even as he and McCaskill went perfect from the charity stripe down the stretch. Senior Graeme Gump added in good free throw shooting for good measure.

Cranbrook closed the out the victory at home to even the series with Cardinal Mooney at 1-1,

Cardinal Mooney travels to face Royal Oak Shrine on Saturday, while Cranbrook hosts Riverview Gabriel Richard at home. The Cranbrook-Richard game will be played at the Keppel gymnasium on the Cranbrook campus on Saturday.
