Michael Jordan discusses Michigan State offer and visit; has two more visits planned this fall
It didn’t take long for the Michigan State coaching staff to extend a scholarship offer to 2016 Plymouth offensive tackle Michael Jordan following his visit to East Lansing on Saturday. Jordan attended the Spartans’ in-state duel with Michigan and was thoroughly impressed with the atmosphere on game day.
On Tuesday, Michigan State offensive line coach Mark Staten made the hour trip down I-96 to check in with Jordan at school. Staten checked Jordan’s grades with his counselor before checking him out in the weight room and on the practice field after school. Following the grade check that showed Jordan having a 3.8 GPA and a physical practice, Staten told Jordan on the phone in the evening that Michigan State was extending a scholarship offer.
“I went to practice and practiced and he said that I did very well. I called him after practice and then he offered me,” Jordan, 6-foot-6, 285-pounds, said. “He said that he liked that I was physical and had size.”
As for the visit this past Saturday, Jordan was enthusiastic about every part of it.
“It was sweet. The atmosphere at Michigan State was amazing, I loved it,” Jordan said. “The coaches really care about my grades in addition to football.
“The game was amazing and I liked how Michigan State played,” Jordan said. “I really watched their left tackle (Jack Conklin) and he got after it. I want to be just like him.”
Jordan talked to the Michigan State coaches following the 35-11 victory over Michigan and even spoke to Staten before kickoff.
“I talked to Coach Staten before the game. I talked to Coach Samuel, Coach Dantonio, and Mr. Blackwell after the game.”
Michigan State was Jordan’s third offer overall joining Michigan and Ohio State. Notre Dame and Nebraska are two other schools that are in talks with him and are close to offering.
Notre Dame has a kicker that hails from Plymouth HS so that is a connection that Jordan likes.
“We have a kicker Kyle Brindza there and I texted him my highlight tape and he showed it to the coaches and they loved it,” Jordan said. “I talk to him a lot. He came to four of our games this year and I talked to him at the Michigan-Notre Dame game.”
As for Nebraska, they are early in getting in communication with Jordan and want him to come to Lincoln for a game.
“I can’t remember the coach’s name, but he’s talked to me about coming to a game. They want to meet with me,” Jordan said.
Jordan will be back in East Lansing on November 8 when Michigan State hosts Ohio State in what will most likely be a game where the winner will most likely go to the Big Ten Championship game.
“I just really want to get to know the coaches better. I want to learn more about the coaches and the program,” Jordan said.
Ohio State will get Jordan’s final regular season visit on November 29 when they host Michigan.
“I want to see how much the coaches care about me and see if it’s a place I want to be around,” Jordan said.
Despite Jordan’s recruitment speeding up now during his junior season, he is planning to wait and sort things out as they progress.
“I’m in the early stages of my recruiting process and I’m interested in every school that is interested in me.”
