Gaylord: Alpena (8-12) and Marquette (13-6) met up in Gaylord in the opening round Class A District 12 matchup.

The game remained close the entire game as Marquette could never pull away but Alpena could never get over the jump as the Redman went on to win 64-57 over the Wildcats.

The first half for the Redman was all Raffy Millado and Marius Grazulis as the juniors combined for 21 of the teams 26 points in the half with Millado scoring 13 and Grazulis with eight. Alpena also had two guys with the bulk of scoring as Chris DeRocher and Kayden Wisniewski had 14 of the team’s 18 points with DeRocher notching eight, and Wisniewski having six.

The second half both teams got the offenses going but the Redman pulled it out in the end behind 11 second half points from Trey McFerrin.

“I just try to be the biggest role player I can, and fill the roles we need,” says McFerrin.

Marquette now advances to Wednesday’s District Semi-Final against Gaylord (12-8) who lost the last three games of the regular season. The winner will take on the winner of Petoskey/Traverse City West in the District 12 Final in Gaylord on Friday
