Center Line beats Imlay City for Game 2 of The D Zone Playoff Tune-up
GROSSE POINTE - Center Line used a blend of defense and athleticism to defeat Imlay City 43-33 Saturday at Grosse Pointe South for Game 2 of The D Zone Playoff Tune-up.
Both teams made scoring difficult, but Center Line did a good job scoring off turnovers and blocking shots in the paint, which also led to fast breaks.
Both teams could make some noise in the playoffs due to their length and shooting ability.
Center Line MVP: Tarez Holmes, 6-8, Sr.
Holmes looks like a D1 talent, but doesn’t have the offers to back the talent and production seen on the court. An explosive dunker with guard skills and a nice jump shot, Holmes appears like someone D1 and definitely D2 schools would avidly compete over. He had 16 points in this game, which is almost 10 points below his season average. Every once and a while guys fall through the cracks, but whether it is through a late offer or from JUCO, Holmes will likely spend time in a D1 uniform.
Imlay City MVP: Zander Nash, 6-6, Sr.
Nash is a tall and versatile player who is often asked to play out of position as point guard. He scored 10 points in this game until leaving late in the fourth quarter due to an ugly-looking leg injury after a dunk. Hopefully, he will be able to return soon and help lead the Spartans in the playoffs.
