Game I Attended: Schoolcraft 63, K-Christian 53
It’s always a big game in the SAC-Valley when Schoolcraft and K-Christian get together. Schoolcraft came into the game (5-0) riding a 26 game winning streak while K-Christian entered (4-1) bouncing back after a Friday loss to Delton-Kellogg. It was K-Christian jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead led by J.J. Manion. Schoolcraft’s two wings Tyler DeGroote and Ty Rykse struggled out of the gate shooting a combined 1-6 in the first quarter. In the second quarter K-Christian held a 21-14 lead until turnovers and fouls squashed their lead. Schoolcraft was able to earn 6 points at the line and take a 26-24 lead into the break. K-Christian came out of the half fired up connecting on 6-11 field goals in the third quarter to take a 43-42 lead. The fourth quarter was where Schoolcraft showed why they are considered a D3 title contender completely dominating both ends of the floor. Senior big man Bryce Vanderwiere played fantastic on the offensive end and even better defensively against K-Christian’s big man Brandon Devries (held him to 3-11 FG). After a three at the buzzer by J.J. Manion of K-Christian the final score ended up being 63-53 Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft was led by Bryce Vanderwiere with 17 points, Ty Rykse had 12 points, and Tyler DeGroote added 11 points. K-Christian was led by J.J. Manion with 18 points while Willem de Jong had 11 points.
