West Michigan Roundup, Friday 3/12/21

The second to last Friday hoops night of the regular season included a couple upsets, but was relatively light across the OK Conference. It seems as of late many teams are falling victim to covid pauses causing much less games across the area. The only division fully in action was the OK Gold where South Christian beat Ottawa Hills 64-52, FH Eastern topped Kenowa Hills 56-43, and Catholic Central took care of Cedar Springs easily 77-34. Some surprising scores from down south included the upsets of Watervliet and Portage Central. Other games of note include K-Central completing the season sweep on Lakeshore 61-54, Fennville with a nine point victory over Martin 49-40, and Marshall snuck past Plainwell 47-44 in a non-conference bout. In some smaller school action Bellevue picked up another big win 41-37 over Colon improving to (9-2). In the Southwest 10, White Pigeon pulled off a mild upset of Marcellus 61-52 and is now 5-2 in conference play.

Best Win: Lawton over Watervliet 46-43

Watervliet entered the game with a (10-2) record tied for first place in the SAC-Lakeshore with Fennville. Lawton on the hand only had 4 wins which came against winless Gobles and two-win Saugatuck. The Blue Devils of Lawton shocked Watervliet with a major upset led by Chase Mitchell with 15 pts. They will look to build off this victory tomorrow against Mattawan.

Next Best: St. Joseph over Portage Central 49-41

Portage Central hadn’t played a game since February 23 due to a covid pause and entered the game (3-2). St. Joseph has had some close calls this season including a one point loss earlier in the year to Portage Central. The Bears were able to avenge that loss with a big win over Portage Central led by Connor Wright with 11 points.
