Wayne Memorial (11-2) remained undefeated in conference play Tuesday night with a convincing 77-52 win over Dearborn.

The Zebras jumped out to a quick early lead and never looked back, as they continued to work through one of their best seasons in school history.

Wayne Memorial MVP: Jaylohn Allen, 6-2, Jr.

Allen is an elite scoring guard who poured in a team-high 25 points while draining 3-pointers and mid-range jumpers all game. Allen rises high on his jump shot and is fearless driving to the basket. He can score in bunches and is able to keep defenses on their toes in a variety of ways. Allen has Division 1 college offers already. He would likely be a Power-4 recruit if he was two or three inches taller.

Dearborn MVP: Hamoudy Mashhour, 6-3, Sr.

Mashhour entered the game fresh off a visit at Central Michigan, and after a slow start, torched the nets in the second half to show why he’s D1 caliber. Mashhour definitely looked like he’s restricted to the wing at the next level, but he has a quick release and tremendous scoring mindset. He’s a threat to score over 40 any night, so his game-high 27 points was actually relatively low for him.

Team Analysis:

Wayne Memorial

Talk about a “big 3”, Wayne has its own version in Allen, Carlos Medlock Jr. (5-11) and Austin Tory (6-6), who suddenly looks like a future D1 player after growing seven inches the past 13 months. Medlock might be awarded Mr. Basketball next year as a slightly undersized point guard with elite athleticism and scoring skills. He threw down a dunk against Dearborn, hit multiple outside shots, and played stifling defense, finishing with 21 points and 12 assists. Forwards Abraham Rooks (6-3) and Joshua Dennis (6-5) add depth in the post, while Jalahn McClellan (5-10) and Antwaan Williams (6-0) add some scoring and defense in the backcourt. Watch out for this team in the playoffs after a regional final appearance last season.

Dearborn

Without their head coach, Dearborn was again outmatched against a fearsome Wayne squad. Mashhour is a great player who can shoot from 25-plus feet and get hot in a hurry. Junior forward Hassan Makki (6-3) has some upside as a strong post player with some versatility. If he can become a better ball-handler he could make an impact at the next level. Adam Harajly (6-0) is a steady point guard who has an athletic frame and solid outside shot. He looked uncomfortable against Wayne’s elite guards, but most players do.
