River Rouge makes statement in battle of undefeated teams

River Rouge and Harper Woods both came into Friday nights showdown undefeated in a game that looked like it could be a instant classic.

It was anything but that.

The Panthers of River Rouge suffocating defense held Harper Woods which was averaging 80 points per game to just 45 and the Panthers offense erupted for 77.

From start to finish Rouge was the better team and made a case to be in the talk of the top teams in the state.

River Rouge also had a historic performance from 2018 Guard Jayvien Torrance who recorded just the fifth triple-double in River Rouge’s rich basketball tradition history led with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Nigel Coffin added 16 points including four threes and Dan Few added a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists in the victory.

River Rouge returns to action Tuesday the 16th on the road at Detroit University Prep. Harper Woods looks to get back on track on Tuesday at home against Ecorse.
