In head coach Greg Carter's first season at Oak Park High School in 2012 he went 9-3, before losing in the state quarterfinals to Wyandotte Roosevelt. The previous year the Knights were 3-6, and failed to make the state playoffs. Carter is already making an immediate impact at Oak Park, and looks to bring the type of success he had at Detroit DePorres and Inskter to the program...state titles.

In order to do that you need talent, and Oak Park has plenty of it. Sophomore John Kelly is probably the most talented of the bunch, and schools are starting to take notice. The 5-10, 187-pound Kelly is athlete on the both sides of the ball, and says he models his game after Adrian Peterson and Eric Berry.

When asked how head coach Greg Carter has changed the culture over at Oak Park, Kelly said, "He is a really soft spoken coach. All of the coaches respect him, as well as our players at Oak Park. He really brought a winning mentality, along with a great coaching staff to a program that wasn't doing so well".

Kelly looks to be one of the top players in the 2015 class in Michigan, though he has not been offered yet. "Michigan,Michigan State,Ohio State,Minnesota,Indiana,Arizona and Penn State are all showing interest in me", said Kelly. I'm interested in all of the schools that are interested in me, as long as I get a chance to play and contribute to the program.

"I haven't planned any visits yet, but I will be attending the Adidas Invitational Camp March 24 at Grand Valley State, and by the summer time I will be going to Michigan,Ohio State, and MSU camps", says Kelly. Max Ex, Kelly's 7-on-7 teams sponsors the camp at Grand Valley, and some of the state's top talent also plays with Max Ex. "It's been really great to be able to compete with all the top kids in the state each week",said Kelly. "It has really benefited me defensively as a DB, and I'm constantly being taught different ways to defend the pass".
