Lincoln's Emoni Bates becomes the 1st sophomore to win the Gatorade National Player of the Year

Ypsilanti Lincoln 2022 Emoni Bates added to his lengthy high school accomplishment list with the Gatorade National Player of the Year honor on Tuesday morning.

Bates won the Michigan Player of the Year award as a Freshman and Sophomore already. With today's announcement, Bates became the first sophomore to ever win the National Player of the Year award.

Bates will now take aim to win the award as a junior and a senior. Bates should also be considered to be the first junior to win Mr. Basketball in 2021.
