West Michigan Roundup, Thursday 3/4/21
West Michigan Roundup, Thursday 3/4/21
Another smaller slate last night as the OK Gold and Green were the only divisions fully in action. The top two teams in the OK Gold both won big, South Christian by 30 over FHE and Catholic Central by 35 over Middleville-TK. It was the same story in the Green with Zeeland East defeating Reeths-Puffer by 12 and Muskegon topping GR Union by 31. The only true upset I found was Berrien Springs defeating Buchanan 41-39 as Buchanan has now lost two of their past three games. Friday’s games should provide much more interesting results.
Best Win: Godwin Heights over Covenant Christian 62-59
Godwin hasn’t faced many true tests this season, so traveling to Covenant was a big game. Jakhary Towns did what he has done all year leading his team with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists to secure the victory.
Next Best: South Christian over FH Eastern 73-43
FH Eastern is not a bad team, in fact they only lost by 10 to #1 Catholic Central last game. South Christian completely dismantled FHE last night, proving that the Sailors clearly deserve more respect with their only losses to Catholic Central.
Best Performance: Wyoming’s Ramere Draper (2022 G/F): 34 points & 14 rebounds
One of the biggest breakout stars in the area this season has come from the Wyoming Wolves. Wyoming has always had breakout players such as Grant Nabors or even Menalito McGee last season. Draper put up some of his best stats of the season in last night’s win over Holland.
Other Performances:
-Godwin Heights Jakhary Towns (2023 G): 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
-Lakeshore’s JJ Bushu (2021 PG): 21 points
-Marcellus’ Gavin Etter (2021 SG): 21 points
-Zeeland East’s Trip Riemersma (2021 SG): 16 points, 5 assists
-Zeeland East’s Nate Claerbaut (2021 C): 15 points, 11 rebounds
-Muskegon’s Anthony Syndor (2023 G): 14 points, 10 rebounds
