West Michigan Roundup, Thursday 2/18/21

Last night featured a decent amount of games including everyone in the OK Green and SMAC in action. Most favorites including Muskegon, Gull Lake, and K-Central were able to win their games. A couple of teams off to surprising starts this season are St. Joseph at 5-0 and Comstock Park at 4-1. St. Joseph will be put to the test on Saturday at Portage Central. Comstock Park has won four straight and notched a victory over Wayland last night.

Best Win: Reeths-Puffer over Zeeland West 54-50

RP has yet to find a signature win this season, but last night's victory over Zeeland West was a step in the right direction. After only defeating Mona Shores by five last game they were able to pick up a road win at the Dux. Another big test this Saturday against FH Eastern.

Next Best: Hudsonville over Caledonia 59-49

Hudsonville keeps turning heads with victories left and right. The Eagles improved to 4-1, 3-1 in conference play with a win over Caledonia last night.

Best Performance: Muskegon’s Ethan Hill (2022 F): 18 points, 12 reb, 3 ast

Comstock’s Israel Patterson (2022 SF): 21 points

Gull Lake’s Caleb Taylor (2021 G): 22 points

Games I Attended: Kalamazoo Central 69, BC Central 22

Kalamazoo Central came into the game 0-1, looking to pick up a home victory. The Maroon Giants came out playing fantastic defense holding BCC scoreless for the entire first quarter. In the second quarter sophomore guard J.P. Spybrook came off the bench and hit a couple three's extending the lead. By halftime it was 31-7 Kalamazoo Central. The third quarter was when Thomas Dillard got hot scoring 10 points on 4-5 FG as we hit the running clock threshold. The fourth quarter went by in a breeze with KC emptying the bench. Sophomore J.P. Spybrook knocked down a couple more threes to finish with 12 points, while Thomas Dillard was the leading scorer with 14 points. K-Central will look to build off this win tonight at Portage Northern.
