West Catholic QB Gaetano Vallone exhibits competitive nature, command of the game
GRAND RAPIDS – With Gaetano Vallone under center, West Catholic is ready to begin its pursuit of a state-record fifth consecutive state championship.
The 5-9, 170-pound West Catholic senior quarterback has all the tools to make that previously unmatched feat a reality, but it's the intangible quality he possesses that really sets him apart, according to his coach.
“His competitive nature is, in my opinion, his greatest attribute as a player, without question,” West Catholic coach Joe Hyland said. “He is a genuine dual-threat quarterback – which, given the way we like to approach things – allows us to utilize the strengths of other players, too.
“He is a winner. At the end of the day, that is going to be his legacy, regardless of what goes on moving forward this season. This kid is a winner.”
