Southfield Christian flexes their muscle. Easily handle Ann Arbor Pioneer 85-61
February 27th was a big day for high school basketball in Michigan. The headline game of them all might have been the matchup between Ann Arbor Pioneer and Southfield Christian.
Both teams have multiple D1 level players, and love to play up tempo basketball. Penn and I believe Oakland University both had coaches in attendance.
Southfield Christian's quickness and athleticism killed Pioneer for much of the game.
The Eagles got a strong start as they led Pioneer 18-8 at the end of the first quarter. Bryce Washington and Caleb Hunter both had 7 apiece for the Eagles.
Pioneer was able to handle Southfield Christian's pressure much better in the second quarter, and Drew Lowder had a great end to the 2nd quarter as he buried a pair of contested threes in the final minute to cut the SC lead to 8.
Southfield Christian managed to regain momentum to start the 3rd behind strong play from unsigned senior Bryce Washington. He knocked down a 3, and made multiple drive and kicks for 3s in the first 5 minutes of the quarter that helped SC get some separation from Pioneer.
The 4th quarter was more of the same as SC kept their foot on the gas the entire way. They cruised to an 85-61 victory.
Bryce Washington led the way for Southfield Christian with an impressive 27 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Washington showed why he is one of the top available prospects in the state, affecting the game in multiple ways. His energy was a big factor in shutting down Kasean Pryor, and he used his athleticism and motor to get plenty of rebounds and transition baskets. Harlond Beverly also filled the stat sheet with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Caleb Hunter had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Southfield Christian moves to 16-3 on the season.
Drew Lowder had a team high 21 points for Pioneer. He also added 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Jack Fitzgerald added 13 points as well for Pioneer, who drop to 11-8 for the season.
