Prospects Recap from Traverse City Central and Traverse City West (Story)
The Traverse City Central vs. Traverse City West football game is truly a game that means more than the result as the game which is named the "TC Patriot Game," honors fallen military members, active duty military, Veterans, Gold Star families, and first responders.
The game itself was much competitive than the rankings would implicate as Central was ranked #24 in the state and top 25 by mostly every media group in the state. TC West who was coming off a tough loss to Holt and Grand Haven, put their bad week 2 and 3 performances in the rear-view mirror as they for the most controlled this game and won 21-14.
Tobin Schwannecke had 2 touchdown passes to give Central a 14-7 lead at halftime, but West led by QB Sam Kuiper leading the wing-t offense would be too much as his equalizing touchdown run and Aiden Griggs 2 touchdown runs would be the difference in this game.
We'll break down their performances below:
Traverse City West:
2020 WR/DB/R Aidan Griggs - The junior was outstanding, Griggs who was used more defensively and on special teams in this game had some great plays on the ball throughout the game. Griggs was very solid in coverage and at times Central didn't throw his way. Griggs scored nice touchdown runs from 5 and 3 yards out.
2019 MLB/RB Odin Soffredine is a 6' 215 lbs LB prospect who also was a FB in the Titans's wing-t offense. Soffredine had a very strong performance on Friday night with good pursuit on plays to the outside and around the line of scrimmage.
2021 RB/DB Christian Boivin had one of the best performances for West with an interception in the redzone early in the game. The sophomore had his #10 in on many more plays during the night as Central's normally strong pass game was neutralized due in large part to how good West's DB coverage was.
2021 CB Patrick O'Connor turned out having the play of the game with a broken up pass in the endzone as the game ended. O'Connor who was all alone with the Central receiver, knocked the ball loose - setting off a raucous celebration.
2019 RB Allen Rosa carried the load for TC West with many nice runs during the night. Rosa hit his holes with and even hit the corner a few times Off-Tackle where he showed off some speed.
2020 DE/TE Zac Tokie had a huge game with a blocked PAT in the first half. Tokie didn't relent after that as he was a solid blocker on offense and defensively he had some big tackles including tackles-for-loss. West didn't have their height and weight on roster but appeared around 6'1 200 lbs+ range.
2019 OT Andy Schollette was a good sized OL prospect who lined up the opposite side of Tokie. With Schollette on the left side, West utilized his blocking and ran several key plays behind this ox! West had the ball on offense for 31 minutes.
2019 DT/RB/LB Kyle Withers is 5'10 195 lbs who slipped through Central's big offensive line. Withers along with the DL group held Central's potent offense in check all night.
Traverse City Central:
2019 DE Jack Sherwin showed how great he was with several key tackles during the game and had a few plays where he burst through and blew up plays. Sherwin also lined up at runningback for a few plays during the game. Sherwin is the only ranked player by The D Zone in this game at #62 in the class of 2019.
2019 QB Tobin Schwannecke is a 6'3 195 lbs QB. Schwannecke was the most effective running the ball as he was tough to bring down and moves well. Schwannecke threw for a nice 39 yard touchdown and 1 yard touchdown as well. Schwannecke had a 2 point conversion run to even the score at 14-14. Schwannecke completed 14 for 32 passes for 161 yards and rushed 13 times for 58 yards
2020 OLB Mitch Stachnik had some nice stops defensively. West didn't really pass much in their wing-t so we don't have much to evaluate in terms of him dropping into coverage. The 6'2 175 lbs had his #6 involved in a lot of tackles.
2021 DE/P Tylor McCoon had a huge game for Central. Defensively McCoon caught our eye ahead of this week on film and the 6'4 190 lbs DE was quick off the line and got to the ball in a hurry. As a Punter McCoon had 2-3 booming punts. The sophomore is a must watch player for the future.
2020 Slot Trey Searles is the Trojans go-to offensive threat as he showed crisp routes through the game and some nice speed. Searles caught a 39-yard touchdown pass and was open late in the game for a potential game-tying touchdown, but was just a bit overthrown. Searles is 5'11 155 lbs.
2019 WR/CB Moswen Kirksey is a 6'1 180 lbs ATH who was key for Central as he scored a 1-yard TD reception. Kirksey had some more key plays in the game, using his athleticism in space with WR screens and other short routes. Defensively Kirksey did well vs. the wing-t offense.
