The Eaglets’ basketball team might this season have one of the toughest schedules in Michigan high school hoops history.

On January 9, at Oakland University’s O’Rena, The Eaglets will host IMG Academy (FL), one of the most dominant travel teams in the country.

Those who follow basketball know this will be a clash against the - at one time - top two ballers in Michigan’s 2025 class. OLSM star Trey McKenney is a virtual lock to win Mr. Basketball because now IMG star and former Cass Tech state champ Darius Acuff left the state after his sophomore season.

Acuff has since stayed neck-and-neck with McKenney as a five-star national recruit. McKenney just announced his top three college options (Michigan, Georgetown, USC), while Acuff committed to John Calipari and Arkansas this summer.

This will be OLSM’s second game against a top-ranked Florida opponent. The Eaglets will host The Villages during Thanksgiving weekend.

OLSM also plays in the toughest conference in the state. The Catholic Central includes state-title contenders U of D Jesuit, Brother Rice, Warren De La Salle, and Detroit Catholic Central. Last year, the conference also added three private schools from Toledo to strengthen the conference for the future.

The Eaglets are led by McKenney, but also feature Western Michigan commit Sharod Barnes, Michigan State football commit Jayden Savoury and D1 prospect Zip Hines.

IMG has one of the most stacked rosters in the nation, but we just missed out on 7-foot-7 center Olivier Rioux, who graduated after last season.
