OK Conference Power Rankings After Week 3
1. Rockford (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated East Kentwood 48-0. This Week: @ Grandville (1-2)
Rockford continues to look like the most complete team in the OK Conference and a team that will contend for the OK Red and make a deep run in the Division 1 playoffs. Senior quarterback Zak Ahern has eight rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns through the first three weeks of the season, leading an offense that is averaging 42 ppg. The Rams defense, which has given up six points in the previous eight quarters has been just as dominant.
2. Grand Rapids Catholic Central (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Forest Hills Eastern 63-0. This Week: vs Grand Rapids South Christian
Led by senior quarterback Joey Silveri’s seven-touchdown first-half explosion, the Cougars continued their domination of the OK Gold, and have now won 39 games in a row against teams from the entire OK Conference. Up next is South Christian, the only team that kept the game within 10 points against the Cougars a season ago.
3. Unity Christian (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Hamilton 65-7. This Week: vs Allendale
The Crusaders have the highest-scoring offense in the state through three weeks at 58 ppg with zero indication that they’re planning on slowing down any time soon. The OK Blue will be a battle this year, but the Crusaders have to be the early favorite through three weeks to take the title. Senior quarterback Cam Chandler has 10 touchdowns in the previous two games and will look to continue that trend at home this week against OK Blue foe Allendale.
4. West Catholic (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Allendale 51-14. This Week: vs Hamilton
West Catholic Junior running back Tim Kloska has decimated defenses through three weeks to the tune of 56 carries for 810 yards and 13 touchdowns. I’m not sure which is the more absurd stat; 810 yards through three weeks, or 14.5 yards-per-carry on 56 touches. Tim and the Flacons will look to start 4-0 for the first time since 2014 this week when they host Hamilton.
5. Caledonia (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Grandville 24-14. This Week: @ East Kentwood
Caledonia made the biggest splash in week three by picking up arguably its biggest win in the OK Red since joining the league in 2016 with a 24-14 victory over Grandville. Junior quarterback Mason McKenzie is the real deal and will look to lead the Scots to its first-ever 2-0 start in conference play when they travel to East Kentwood this Friday.
6. Forest Hills Central (2-1)
Last Week: Defeated Northview 45-0. This Week: @ Lowell
The Rangers bounced back from a devastating loss in week two to Grand Blanc by taking out some frustration in a 45-0 beatdown over Northview. Senior quarterback Hunter Robinson is back from injury, and it will be interesting to see how the Rangers handle playing time as Junior Justin Osterhouse has played well in his absence.
7. Muskegon Mona Shores (2-1)
Last Week: Defeated Grand Rapids Union 56-26. This Week: vs Zeeland West
Mona Shores looked to be on upset watch in the first half against Union, but bounced back to win comfortably and avoid back-to-back losses for the first time since 2016. The Sailors begin the first leg of their back-to-back with the Zeeland’s when they host the Dux this Friday at Sailor Stadium.
8. Muskegon (2-1)
Last Week: Defeated Zeeland West 28-20. This Week: vs Grand Rapids Union
The Big Reds had a huge come-from-behind win over Zeeland West last week to start play in the OK Green. Myles Walton and the Big Reds offense will look to get back to firing on all cylinders this week when they host Union.
9. Spring Lake (3-0)
Last Week: Defeated Holland Christian 47-12. This Week: @ Fruitport
Much of the talk in the OK Blue has revolved around Unity Christian and West Catholic, and for good reason, however, don’t sleep on Spring Lake. The Lakers are off to a convincing 3-0 start and look like legit contenders in the Blue. They’ll be favored in their next two games before facing Unity Christian on October 1st.
10. Zeeland West (1-1)
Last Week: Lost to Muskegon 28-20. This Week: @ Muskegon Mona Shores
No one in the entire OK Conference envies the task that the Dux are taking on right now in facing Muskegon and Mona Shores in back-to-back weeks. However, with a win, the Dux will be right back in the mix of the OK Green race.
