Madison Heights beats rival Lamphere to complete undefeated regular season on Friday
MADISON HEIGHTS — Madison Heights Madison’s football team finished the regular-season portion of its schedule undefeated, as the Eagles beat rival Madison Heights Lamphere 42-14 Oct. 20 at Madison.
With the win, the Eagles finished the regular season at 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Macomb Area Conference Silver Division.
After going winless last season, Lamphere concluded its regular season at 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the MAC Bronze.
District playoff matchups will be announced Sunday.
Madison coach James Rogers has been on both sides of the rivalry, as he is a former player for Lamphere.
“It’s a little bittersweet,” Rogers said of what it’s like to coach against Lamphere. “I grew up on the south side. I’m a Madison Heights kid. I went to Wilkinson (Middle School); I went to Edison (Elementary School). I just ended up going to high school over there. This is still home for me, but I got respect for Lamphere. I’m glad they’re turning that program around. When both schools are doing good, it’s great for our city, great for our community.”
