Game and Prospects Recap from Traverse City West and Gaylord (Story)
Traverse City West and Gaylord each entered this game with a 5-2 record, the winner would guarantee their playoff birth. Gaylord started off strong with a touchdown on their opening drive. West tied the score in the 4th quarter at 10-10 to send the game into overtime. A nice combo tackle resulted in a forced fumble by Seth Gallagher and Kyle Withers late in the game which stopped a Gaylord drive around the redzone. In overtime, West scored first and stopped Gaylord on their 2 point conversion attempt. Traverse City West won by the score of 17-16.
We'll break down their performances below:
Traverse City West:
2019 MLB/RB Odin Soffredine is a 6' 215 lbs MLB prospect who was very solid for the Titans on Saturday as he had the game-sealing tackle in overtime which preserved their 17-16 win. Throughout the game he had many tackles and some nice runs on offense with Aidan Griggs injured.
2019 DT/RB/LB Kyle Withers is 5'10 195 lbs and has seen an increase of playing time at RB, where he's become a valuable RB for West with 2 players out. Withers had some nice rushes during the game but none were bigger than his first carry of overtime as he ran up the middle for 9 yards, which setup a touchdown on the next play. Defensively he got after Gaylord a lot and was responsible for a fumble in the final minutes of the game.
2021 RB/OLB Christian Boivin had the game-tying touchdown for West. He's an athletic player who as a sophomore is going to add more weight to his frame. He should be listed as an "Athlete" right now.
2021 CB Patrick O'Connor was the hero with his PBU as the game ended vs. Traverse City Central a few weeks earlier. He had a huge PBU again this week on a wheel route in the final minute of the game which would have surely gotten Gaylord a touchdown or at worst field goal range. O'Connor is displaying tremendous playmaking abilities and good ball skills at a young age.
2020 DE/TE Zac Tokie played both ways and did well. He should get several looks as a DE as he's very physically gifted and shows flashes of how good of a DE he is.
2019 OT Andy Schollette is a nice sized offensive lineman who West can run behind. He gets to the next level well and is very physical.
Gaylord:
2019 OG/OC/DT Bryce Neff is a 6'3 280 lbs lineman who was probably the top performing lineman in this game. Neff performed extremely well on both sides of the ball. Offensively Gaylord did pick up several first downs as Neff has pretty good athleticism and blocked well in run/pass. Defensively he broke through the West line for some nice tackles.
2019 LB James Miller is a 6' 220 lbs linebacker for the Blue Devils who moved all over the defensive backfield and caused havoc on West's defense all night long. Miller had several key tackles throughout the game to stop West's offense. Offensively he had some nice plays too, lining up in a few Wildcat snaps.
2019 DE Demetrius Miller is a pass rusher at 6'2 205 lbs who blew up some plays for Gaylord as he's pretty athletic and has some good burst.
2019 RB Cade Foster who is 5'9 185 lbs scored the first rushing touchdown of the day for Gaylord and had some nice runs as well. On the year he's averaged over 160 yards per game.
