Game and Prospects Recap from Cass Tech and Southfield A&T (Story)
Cass Tech jumped out to an early lead in this week 1 game and didn't look back. The Technicians applied the running clock twice during this game and set's an intriguing week 2 matchup with Muskegon who are both 1-0 and highly ranked. Southfield will look to regroup vs. 0-1 Groves.
We'll break down top performances below:
Cass Tech:
2022 DT/OT Deone Walker - When he's dialed in, he's unstoppable. The 6'7 lineman is extremely athletic and maneuvers so well. His top highlight was back-to-back tackles for no gain and then a 3-yard loss on their goal line.
2022 OT Masai Reddick - Was arguably the most impactful player this game as he constantly got upfield and was solid in every aspect of blocking.
2022 WR Jameel Gardner - Bowling Green State is getting an absolute talent who always makes big plays. He's really tuned up his route running and was open at will.
2022 OG Jackson Pruitt - Alongside Walker, they form a lethal left side of the line of scrimmage. Pruitt was active all game and the offense flourished.
2023 DE Jalen Thompson - Had some very nice pass rushes, didn't have a huge statistically game, but his impact was felt big-time.
2023 TE/WR Khamari Anderson - Impressed us big-time on Saturday. We knew he moved well, but looks much better on his feet than we thought. Solid hands too.
2023 CB/WR Javen Sewell - Was providing skin-tight coverage all game long at the position. He added a nice touchdown catch. Very energetic player.
2022 CB Míles Gilmore - Had a nice game guarding slots and other Southfield backs. Had a few tackles + a really good read on an interception.
2022 WR Nate Briggs - Had some nice routes and reliable hands. In fact, he had a really good game that was just overshadowed.
2023 QB Leeshaun Mumpfield - Is a QB every high academic / service academy should be on now. He's so smart running the offense. The most impressive plays were how fast he made something out of bad snaps, twice picking up 1st downs on broken plays.
2023 RB Shamar Snow & 2022 RB Karriem Sharrieff - Is the Technicians "thunder and lightning." Snow broke out several nice runs and got upfield well. Sharrieff had several tough runs with a few broken tackles along the way.
2022 TE Julius Faulkner - Unfortunately the roster had his number wrong, but he was a big-time playmaker for Cass on Saturday. Blocked and caught well, not afraid to lower shoulder for extra yards.
Southfield A&T:
2023 QB Isaiah Marshall - Had his hands full vs. a tough defense and a young supporting cast. Marshall held up all day and kept going. He made some very good throws with excellent placement and will only be better because of this game.
2024 WR Tashi Braceful - Young talent who will be a household name in due time. Had a few tough catches and was getting some nice separation from DB's.
2022 LB Jerome Baker - Had arguably the best game among anyone on Southfield. Physical and moves well sideline-to-sideline. Had a forced fumble.
2023 CB/WR Darrell Jones - Held up well in mostly one on one coverage and was returning kicks too.
2023 S Devon Buskin - Made some good plays over the top and came down to make some assisted tackles.
2024 DT/DE Reggie Gardner - Played with a purpose from the opening to final plays. Made some good tackles around the line of scrimmage and pursued several more plays to make tackles.
