Cranbrook rebuffs Oakland Christian 67-44; prepares for post-season play.
The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes repulsed The Oakland Christian Lancers 67-44 in a non-conference match up at home last night. The win moves Cranbrook to 12-4 on the season, while Oakland Christian falls to 7-10 on the year.
Senior forward Jack Fairman led the Cranes scoring with 15 points; while senior forward Jordan Roebuck contributed 13 points and freshman forward John Kersh added 10 points.
Junior guard Tono Munoz led the Lancers with 12 points.
Cranbrook jumped out to a 19-17 first quarter lead, with Fairman leading the way with a 3-pointer, several field goals, and a couple of free throws. Junior point guard Daniel Siminski kept pace for Oakland Christian with several field goals of his own.
Roebuck and Kersh provided the wind under the Cranes’ wings in the second quarter, piling in points from their front court positions, and dominating in the paint. The Lancers could only manage a pair of 3-point shots as they struggled to keep pace.
Cranbrook led 35-20 at the half.
Kersh took lead position in the Cranes flight pattern in the third quarter, and gave lift to an effective shooting spree by junior guard Miles Pistner, senior guard Ethan Purther, and freshman guard Evan Evans. Munoz and senior guard Angelo Scafone did their best to keep pace with Cranbrook, but Oakland Christian began to fall behind.
Cranbrook led 57-27 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lancers made a push with several 3-point shots made in the final quarter, but the gap was too big to fill. A couple of big 3-pointers by Pistner shut the door on the Oakland Christian comeback. The Cranes landed with a 67-44 win at home.
Cranbrook now prepares for the Catholic League Tournament, drawing the Cristo Rey Wolves in the opening round. The game will be played at the Academy of Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on Saturday. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
