Cranbrook outpaced by Riverview Gabriel Richard 69-53 in divisional showdown.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes lost a home game to the Riverview Gabriel Richard Pioneers 69-53 in a CHSL divisional matchup on Tuesday. The Cranes fall to 6-2 on the season, while the Pioneers move to 7-1 overall.

Cranbrook senior forward Sam Hauxwell and junior guard Cam Garner led the scoring with 15 points each, with freshman forward John Kersh adding 9 points.

Sophomore center Nick Szczechowski had 19 points to lead the Pioneers, while senior guard Robbie Henderson and sophomore guard Michael Calhoun each added 10 points in the win.

Richard jumped out to a 20-12 lead in the first quarter, with Szczechowski leading the charge for the Pioneers. Henderson added two key free throws in the fast start.

Hauxwell and senior forward Jack Fairman kept the Cranes in the game with low post scoring and several free throws of their own.

Junior Cam Garner made his presence known in the second quarter, hitting a field goal and a steal, while Fairman and junior center Bryce Hall grabbed rebounds to keep the Cranes in the fight.

Cranbrook trailed 34-23 at the half.

Calhoun and Henderson kept the momentum going for Richard in the third quarter, even as Garner caught fire for the Cranes. His defensive rebounding helped the Cranes climb back in the game.

The game stood at 52-35 at the end of three quarters.

Kersh rallied Cranbrook in the fourth quarter scoring with several field goals, offensive rebounds, and blocked shots. Garner and senior forward Jordan Roebuck added several free throws, but it was not enough to overtake the Pioneers.

The scoreboard showed 69-53 in the Richard victory.

Cranbrook will face Royal Oak Shrine in a CHSL divisional match up on Friday January 24th, 2020. The game will be held on the Cranbrook campus in the Keppel Gymnasium.

Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
