Cranbrook defeats University Liggett 65-50; moves to 2-0 on the season

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes defeated the Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett Knights 65-50 in CHSL crossover action on Thursday.


Cranbrook got off to a good start in the first quarter behind senior forward Jordan Roebuck hitting a 3-point shot early, sparking a run by the Cranes. Good perimeter shooting and rebounding by senior forward Jack Fairman gave the team the early edge.

The Cranes led 10 -7 at the end of the first quarter.

Senior Sam Hauxwell stepped up in the next quarter, with Roebuck and Fairman adding scoring from the paint. Liggett made a run behind junior forward Michael Clark but could not gain the lead against the Crane defense.

Cranbrook led 31-20 at the half.

Hauxwell led the charge in the third quarter, putting in points from the perimeter as the third quarter began. Fairman and junior Bryce Hall dominated in the rebounding game in the quarter, while Clark sank several field goals for Liggett

The Cranes led 49-30 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Liggett make a big push putting in 20 points behind Clark’s barrage of 3 pointers. But freshman guard Evan Evans and Fairman kept the Knights at bay with solid free throw shooting and rebounding.

The Cranes stood atop 65-50 at the final buzzer.

“We played well tonight, finding good shots early on”, said Cranes Head Coach Shane Finney. “Liggett is a well-coached program and very tenacious. They didn’t give up and competed till the very end. They gave great effort.”

Hauxwell led the scoring with 21 points, with Roebuck adding 14 points, and Fairman putting in 11 points in the win. Fairman had 11 rebounds in the game for a double-double.

Cranbrook will face Detroit Osborn in a non-conference match up in the Hoopz for Hope Showcase this weekend. The game will be held at Birmingham Groves located at 20500 W 13 Mile Rd, Beverly Hills, MI 48025 on Sunday December 22nd.
