After making the playoffs for 1st time in school history, Hamtramck forfeits 2017 season
The Hamtramck Cosmos had their dream season unfolding as they won their 6th game this past week to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in the schools history. Unfortunately just a day prior to their game final game of regular season vs. Crestwood, Hamtramck was ruled to have an ineligible player, thus resulting in all their wins being forfeited.
"Unfortunate events have come to light in regards to our varsity football team and their season. Our internal investigation determined that Hamtramck Public Schools was in violation of a Michigan High School Athletic Association transfer rule. By rule all games this season will be forfeited. The Hamtramck High School football team is no longer eligible for the state playoffs. No student bears responsibility for this violation. The game scheduled for October 20, 2017 against Crestwood will not be played."
"Hamtramck Public Schools believes in being honest at all times and we will ensure that this mistake will not happen again. As a district we cooperated with the Michigan High School Athletic Association as soon as we realized that there was an issue."
