West Michigan Roundup, Thursday 3/25/21

Last night the district semi-finals gave us insane results. Close games took place everywhere with some shocking upsets. First of all in D1, FH Central defeated Northview for the third time this season 56-49 to set up a date with FH Northern in the district title. Muskegon avenged a late-season loss to Reeths-Puffer by defeating them 67-58 and will now face Grand Haven in the title. In the EGR hosted district two great games took place with EGR topping Wyoming 54-52 and Caledonia getting past Ottawa Hills 59-52. In a game with both teams a little shorthanded West Ottawa beat Hudsonville 42-39 in overtime to set up a district final with undefeated Zeeland East. The Kalamazoo area is where some crazy upsets happened including K-Central’s season ending with a 49-47 loss to Portage Northern. The second best team in the SMAC, Gull Lake also lost 48-43 to a BC Central team who had one-win all regular season. The storied career of Thomas Kurowski ended with Sturgis losing 73-69 in overtime to Coldwater. In Division 2 there were a few interesting scores including previously two-win Wayland picking up a victory over Plainwell. In that same district Hopkins upset Otsego 62-61 on a crazy buzzer beater from the corner by Colin Weber. Holland Christian beat a talented Coloma team and will now face Benton Harbor in the district title. Lastly, Edwardsburg lost 60-51 to Buchanan to conclude a horrible night for the Wolverine Conference that went 1-7 on the night. Paw Paw was the lone win for the conference defeating Vicksburg 69-62 in overtime. Moving to Division 3, Marcellus gave Brandywine a strong fight falling 60-51. Centreville was taken to overtime by Union City, but came away with a 61-57 victory.

  • Hopkins over Otsego 62-61
